Then spoke Jesus again to them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
John 8:12
Thoughts on Today’s Verse…
God is the light of our life. When we encounter difficulties and setbacks, God’s words are the lamp before our feet, and the light on our path, giving us faith and strength. Just as David said, “For with You is the fountain of life: in Your light shall we see light” (Psalms 36:9).
God is the truth, the way, and the life. Only if we follow God’s footprints can we see the light in the darkness. When the Lord Jesus came to do His work, the Pharisees, chief priests, and scribes resisted and condemned Him rather than kept pace with His work, thus falling into darkness and being punished by God in the end. In contrast, people like Peter and John heard God’s voice, followed the pace of His work, and received a steady stream of supply from Him.
Now is the last days and the Lord Jesus is coming again. If we can’t follow the Lord’s footprints, we will be forsaken by Him. So, how can we follow the Lord’s footprints? I remember a passage I read before, “For this reason, since we are searching for the footprints of God, it behooves us to search for God’s will, for the words of God, for His utterances—because wherever there are new words spoken by God, the voice of God is there, and wherever there are the footsteps of God, God’s deeds are there. Wherever there is the expression of God, there God appears, and wherever God appears, there the truth, the way, and the life exist.” From this we can see that where there is God’s appearance, there is God’s expression, and there is the truth, the way, and the life. As long as we carefully listen to God’s words, we will surely behold God’s appearance and follow the footprints of the Lamb, thus living in the light.
